Wabtec has installed Septentrio receivers on Class I railways throughout the United States

Wabtec has installed Septentrio's GNSS receivers on its GoLINC™ Edge platform to enhance the positioning, connectivity, data storage and PTC (Positive Train Control) functionality of freight railways in the U.S. The PTC system is a safety system designed to prevent trains from colliding, speeding and derailing, breakthroughs into established work zones and movement through misplaced turnouts.The GoLINC system consists of an on-board navigation component, the PNM (Precision Navigation Module), and a base station component, the PRM (Precision Reference Module), both of which contain high-precision GNSS receivers for determining position.

Wabtec chose Septentrio's GNSS receivers because of their excellent performance and the technical advantages required by the customer. These receivers are not only mounted on locomotives, but also serve as positioning reference modules on the track, ensuring coverage of 30,000 miles of railway. In addition, the GoLINC system integrates with Wabtec's PTC solution to provide safe coverage, enforcing existing railway signal indications and other operating rules.The PTC system also provides critical information on work area proximity, movement authorisations, switch positions and other operating data. The high-precision GNSS infrastructure also supports other applications such as railway inspection of drone flights
