The Beidou system, operated by China, has commenced service in the Asia-Pacific region

China's Beidou Satellite Navigation System (BDS) is a global satellite navigation system independently developed by China, which consists of three parts: the space segment, the ground segment and the user segment.

It includes three parts: the space segment, the ground segment and the user segment. The development of BDS has gone through three stages: at the end of 2000, the BeiDou-1 system was built and began to provide services to China; at the end of 2012, the BeiDou-2 system was built and began to provide services to the Asia-Pacific region; and in 2020, the BeiDou-3 system will be built and begin to provide services globally
By 2020, the Beidou-3 system will be completed and services will be provided globally.

The Beidou system has a variety of service capabilities, including positioning, navigation and timing, satellite-based augmentation, ground-based augmentation, precision single-point positioning, short message communication and international search and rescue.
It is characterised by the use of three types of orbiting satellites. It is characterised by a mixed constellation of three orbital satellites, with strong anti-obscuration capability and obvious performance advantages, especially in low-latitude areas. In addition, the BeiDou system provides navigation signals at multiple frequency points and improves service accuracy through the combined use of multi-frequency signals.
BeiDou system has been widely used in transport and communications.

BeiDou system has been widely used in the fields of transport, agriculture, forestry and fishery, hydrological monitoring, meteorological measurement and reporting, communication system, electric power dispatching, disaster relief and mitigation, and public security.
BeiDou system has been widely used in transport, agriculture, forestry and fishery, water monitoring, meteorological reporting, communication system, power dispatching, relief and mitigation, public security and other fields. In terms of mass application, BeiDou system has also been widely used in smart phones, smart wearable devices, e-commerce and other fields.

On 27 December 2018, the construction of the Beidou 3 basic system was completed, and it began to provide global services. This marks the expansion of the service scope of the BeiDou system from regional to global, and the BeiDou system has officially entered the era of globalised application. The performance of the BeiDou system is in line with expectations and has the ability to provide global services, with a positioning accuracy of 10 metres horizontally and 10 metres in elevation (95% confidence level); a speed measurement accuracy of 0.2 metres per second (95% confidence level); a timing accuracy of 20 nanoseconds (95% confidence level); and a system service availability better than 95% of the time The availability of system services is better than 95 per cent.

The achievements of the Beidou system not only serve China, but also benefit the whole world, making important contributions to the world satellite navigation cause.
