The protection of critical infrastructure

MoxyByte is a company focused on protecting critical infrastructures by providing solutions that leverage the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing technologies to secure vital installations such as fibre-optic cables, fresh water supply lines and natural gas pipelines.

MoxyByte's founders received the AI-CUP award for their expertise and innovative algorithms in the field of Artificial Intelligence, a Bavarian-French initiative to support AI entrepreneurs!

The challenges MoxyByte faces

MoxyByte's challenges included ensuring the reliability of the device in harsh weather conditions, signal reception in remote areas, and how to achieve low power consumption to extend battery life. They designed the Secure Ultra Low Power IoT device (SULPI) to provide connectivity to the cloud through sensors in the hatch (e.g. magnets on the lid) and integration with the operations control centre to trigger an alert if abnormal activity is detected.

To overcome these challenges, MoxyByte used modules from u-blox, which helped them to solve the problems posed by weather conditions, location and external factors. the SULPI devices have been deployed in critical infrastructures in Germany to detect unusual activity. the ubxlib host C library supplied by u-blox was used by MoxyByte as their cellular module driver, which significantly reduced development time u-blox

u-blox is a leading global supplier of positioning and wireless communication technologies based in Switzerland. Their products include chips, modules and data services for the automotive, industrial and consumer markets.

Known for their accuracy, anti-spoofing, power efficiency, size and cost-effectiveness, u-blox products set the industry standard for performance and cost-effectiveness!
MoxyByte also utilises u-blox's expertise in the field.

MoxyByte also utilises the low-power nature of the u-blox modules to extend battery life by placing the device in idle mode when it is not in use, resulting in low battery consumption. Their goal is a minimum of five years of battery life, but the company always aims for ten years.

u-blox's modules support a wide range of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellations to provide highly accurate positioning and feature low power consumption, which is critical for MoxyByte as they need to ensure that their devices operate reliably over long periods of time, while keeping maintenance costs low.

In addition, MoxyByte's future looks promising as its critical infrastructure applications can be adapted to other environments and meet different objectives. They have already attracted a number of potential customers who require enhanced positioning accuracy, such as tracking boats in regattas and monitoring luxury vehicles.

MoxyByte's success story shows that critical infrastructure can be effectively protected and managed by combining IoT devices and cloud computing. Their solution not only improves security, but also increases efficiency through intelligent data analytics.
