GPR and Rheinmetall Provectus have announced a strategic collaboration with the objective of developing advanced localisation technology

The collaboration between GPR Ground Positioning Radar (GPR) and Rheinmetall Provectus is a strategic initiative to integrate GPR's WaveSense positioning system into Rheinmetall Provectus' autonomous driving platform. This collaboration follows a successful Proof of Concept (PoC) in the rugged terrain of Ontario, Canada, in Q3 and Q4 2023, which demonstrated the superior performance of the WaveSense technology in GNSS-absent environments and demonstrated its potential to revolutionise autonomous navigation in challenging conditions.

Notable in this collaboration is Septentrio and its Septentrio Mosaic GNSS module, a company focused on providing high-precision GNSS solutions, and its Mosaic GNSS module, a mass-market application designed for mass-market applications requiring centimetre-level positioning accuracy in challenging environments. Mosaic-X5 is a compact module that supports all current and future GNSS satellite signals and has built-in advanced AIM+ technology for mitigating interference and preventing spoofing, ensuring optimal availability, reliability and accuracy.

Rheinmetall Provectus is a global leader in automated navigation solutions, providing proven autonomous navigation technology to help solve safety, labour and budget challenges. They provide customised unmanned ground vehicle solutions that can easily handle rugged terrain and harsh conditions, serving a wide range of industries from mining and forestry to security and logistics, increasing workplace productivity, reducing risk and keeping workers safe.

GPR's WaveSense technology captures unique, stable, and always-available subsurface data via Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for the positioning of self-driving vehicles. The technology is unaffected by the absence of GPS, inclement weather, obstructed visibility, unclear road markings, or the field of operation. The WaveSense technology consists of three components: the GroundSense sensor, the NavSense positioning software, and the MapSense mapping suite, which together comprise an all-weather, all-environment mapping and positioning system.

The partnership will enable Rheinmetall Provectus to combine its autonomous platform with the WaveSense system to enable new capabilities such as Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) and GNSS Denial of Leader-Follower Operations. This will lead to game-changing solutions for customers in industries such as defence, where GNSS denial operations are commonplace.

Rheinmetall Provectus' strategic investment and deployment of GPR's WaveSense technology demonstrates recognition of the technology's potential and confidence in its ability to unlock new levels of autonomy and security in mission-critical operations. As the partnership deepens, it is expected to drive continued innovation and market expansion, addressing the unique needs of key customers while exploring additional market opportunities. By integrating the high-precision positioning capabilities of the Septentrio Mosaic GNSS module, this collaboration is expected to further enhance the performance and reliability of the autonomous driving platform.
